Procter & Gamble, in Cincinnati, OH, has been recognized as one of the 15 Best in Marketing Diversity by Black Enterprise.
Columbus, OH is hailed for its relatively low black unemployment rate of 9 percent, its 8,771 black business owners and the 5.4 percent of blacks who earn more than $100,000 a year. Black professionals are drawn to Columbus because of its strong housing stock, educational opportunities and its growing influence in supporting and developing black business ownership, said Michael Gordon, vice president for business development for the Columbus Chamber. The Columbus Dispatch recognized these advantages in an April 2007 article.

The Minority Contractors and Business Assistance Program (MCBAP) provides outreach for the Division of Minority Business Affairs (DMBA) into the minority business community. The MCBAP offices assist minority entrepreneurs with loan and bond packaging services, management, technical, financial and contract procurement assistance.
The MCBAP offices are located in 8 regional areas including Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Portsmouth, Toledo and Youngstown.
These offices provide one-on-one counseling to new and existing business owners. MCBAP offices help minority firms with the following:
- Accessing various state and local government programs
- Completing federal, state and local certification applications
- Identifying local resources
- Referrals to financial assistance programs
- Providing access to a Plan/Bid room, which includes on-line Dodge Reports.
MCBAP Services include:
- Accounting assistance
- Loan packaging assistance
- Marketing plan development
- Estimating/Bidding assistance
- Plan rooms/Dodge Reports
- Contract procurement assistance
- Business management counseling
MCBAP Mission:
To provide direct professional services that contribute to the growth and stability of Ohio's underutilized businesses.

Eligibility:
Existing and start-up minority business enterprises. Minority business enterprises are defined as Businesses that are at least 51 percent or more owned and controlled by one of the following disadvantaged groups: African American, Hispanic, Native American and Asian.
